The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the government and security agencies to intensify investigations into the alleged abduction and disappearance of Fuseini Mohammed, a resident of Dambai in the Oti Region.
The party says nearly 10 months after his reported disappearance, Mr Mohammed’s whereabouts remain unknown, with no individual brought to justice in connection with the case.
The NPP made the demand during a media engagement in Dambai on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, led by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
According to the party, Mr Mohammed was allegedly abducted at about 9:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025, while returning home on a motorbike with his pregnant wife after closing from their shop.
The party said the incident reportedly occurred about 50 metres from the residence of the Oti Regional Minister.
Mr Kodua questioned why the case had remained unresolved for so long and demanded answers from the authorities.
He asked: “Where is Fuseini Mohammed? Who took him? Why has no person been brought to justice in connection with his disappearance?”
The NPP also raised questions about how the alleged perpetrators could have moved the victim out of the area without being detected.
Mr Kodua noted that the ferry in Dambai was reportedly not operational at the time, restricting movement into and out of the town.
He added that the alternative route towards Nkwanta Junction was about eight kilometres long and had three security checkpoints operating at night.
The NPP is therefore asking the government, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and national security and law enforcement agencies to provide an update on the investigation.
The party wants authorities to disclose the investigative steps taken since October 21, 2025, including how information and leads provided by residents and potential witnesses have been followed up.
It has also questioned whether CCTV footage from the area and relevant routes was retrieved, preserved and subjected to forensic analysis.
According to Mr Kodua, there was reportedly no power outage in the area at the time of the incident, raising questions about whether surveillance cameras were operational and whether footage could help identify the vehicle allegedly involved or trace its movements.
The party further wants security agencies to clarify whether records from checkpoints along the relevant routes were examined and whether officers on duty at the time were interviewed.
The NPP also questioned the role of REGSEC in coordinating the investigation and called for assurances that all available investigative mechanisms had been deployed.
The party stressed that the matter should not be treated as a partisan political issue, arguing that every Ghanaian is entitled to equal protection under the law.
It called on civil society organisations, traditional authorities, religious leaders, human rights groups, the media and other stakeholders to join the demand for what it described as a thorough, professional and transparent investigation.
The NPP said the prolonged uncertainty was causing anguish for Mr Mohammed’s family and undermining public confidence in the security system in the Oti Region.
The party is demanding that authorities find Fuseini Mohammed, establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and prosecute anyone found responsible in accordance with the law.
It has also vowed to continue pressing for answers until the circumstances surrounding the disappearance are fully established.
