Nigeria Declares Security Emergency: Tinubu Orders Massive Army and Police Recruitment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency in Nigeria. He ordered a big increase in recruitment for the Army and Police to fight rising crime.

In a speech from Aso Rock on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Tinubu said the situation needs fast and strong action. The Police will add 20,000 officers, making a total of 50,000 new recruits.

NYSC camps will be used to train them quickly. Police guards for VIPs will retrain and move to high-risk areas.

The Department of State Services (DSS) will send all trained forest guards to hunt terrorists and bandits in forests. They will also hire more staff.

“There will be no safe place for evil people,” Tinubu said. More officers will go to areas hit by terrorism, banditry, and violence.

He praised security forces for freeing 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and 38 worshippers in Kwara. Efforts continue to rescue others, like students from a Catholic school in Niger State.

Tinubu told the military: “Nigerians count on you. This government will support you.”

He will help states with their own security teams. He asked the National Assembly to change laws so states can create state police if needed.

Tinubu warned against boarding schools in unsafe remote areas. Religious groups must work with security for events.
