NIB releases Ameyaw-Akumfi

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority Board, has been released from detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)
His detention was related to an investigation into financial matters during his tenure as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
According to his legal counsel, Ken Kuranchie, Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi was taken from his home on Sunday morning by a group of men in three pickups. They informed him that he was needed at the NIB, and he voluntarily followed them. Kuranchie stated that the investigation focuses on financial matters and certain approvals made during Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi’s time as GIIF’s board chairman.
Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi’s release was confirmed by his legal counsel, and it’s reported that he’s now free. The investigation is ongoing, but for now, Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi is no longer in detention.
