“NDC Urges Fairness from Police in Voter Registration Exercise Amidst Arrest Controversy”

In response to the recent arrest of Alhaji Collins Dauda, Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called upon the police to ensure impartiality throughout the ongoing nationwide voter registration process, which commenced on May 7 and is set to conclude on May 27.

A statement issued by Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, underscored the party’s insistence on the police upholding their duty to safeguard all stakeholders involved in the registration exercise.

Disputing the circumstances surrounding Alhaji Dauda’s arrest, the statement clarified that he was not present at the registration center in Kukuom, Asunafo South Constituency, on May 11. The NDC vehemently condemned what it described as the “unprofessional haste” of the police in publicizing the arrest, asserting that Alhaji Dauda had committed no offense.

According to a police statement, Alhaji Dauda was detained in connection with a disturbance during the voter registration exercise in Kukuom, Ahafo Region, but has since been released on bail.

The NDC reiterated its commitment to peace throughout the registration process, highlighting its adherence to the law and urging its supporters to remain composed despite alleged provocations and violent attacks, particularly in incidents involving NPP supporters.

Expressing concern over reported violent acts against NDC supporters, the party called for police intervention to address such incidents promptly. While affirming its stance against initiating violence, the NDC emphasized its supporters’ right to self-defense if faced with aggression.
