NDC Supporters Converge in Tamale for National Campaign Launch Amidst Growing Criticism

Supporters of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have flooded Tamale Metropolis in anticipation of the party’s national campaign launch. Vehicles, bikes, and available spaces are adorned with the party’s emblem, and many supporters sport scarves and flags in the party’s colors of white, black, green, and red.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, along with his Vice Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, party chairman Mr. Aseidu Nketiah, and other national executives and party stalwarts, are set to address the gathering. The event will serve as a platform to elaborate on the party’s contentious 24-hour economy policy, which has faced criticism for its perceived lack of appeal.

In recent elections, the NDC has seen declining support in Tamale, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has gained ground both in votes and parliamentary seats. Currently, the NDC and NPP hold nine parliamentary seats each out of the 18 in the Northern region.

Local businesses, including hotels and eateries, are experiencing an influx of patrons. The Ghana News Agency (GNA) reported that supporters were still securing reservations at popular hotels such as Marian Hotel, Neem Avenue Hotel, and Modern City Hotel.

Northern Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr. Sulemana Mohammed, assured that thorough preparations have been made to ensure a successful and accident-free event. Key national executive members, including National Campaign Director Professor Joshua Alabi, have already arrived in Tamale. Community-to-community educational campaigns are ongoing to inform members and potential supporters about the launch.

Preparations are in full swing, with arrangements for media stands, podiums, security, publicity, and accommodation well underway. Mr. Mohammed highlighted that placards are being distributed, and security measures are in place in collaboration with the police.

Madam Faustina Serebuoh, a trader selling party paraphernalia near the NDC Regional Office, noted that business has been slow but remains hopeful for increased sales as the main event approaches.
