NDC Holds Parliamentary Primary in Ayawaso East Today

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is today, Saturday, February 7, 2026, conducting its parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election.

The primary follows a successful vetting exercise held at the NDC’s Greater Accra Regional Office, which cleared all five aspirants who filed nominations.

After vetting, the candidates balloted for their positions on the ballot paper. In the order drawn, the cleared aspirants are:

Mohammed Ramme (NDC Constituency Chairman)

Amina Adam (widow of the late MP Mahama Naser Toure)

Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed (Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria)

Yakubu Azindow

Najib Mohammed

Speaking to the media after the vetting, Greater Accra Regional Secretary Theophilus Tetteh Chaie commended the aspirants for their discipline and cooperation during the process.

He urged all contenders to campaign peacefully and responsibly among party members and delegates to ensure a successful and united outcome.

The Ayawaso East by-election is scheduled for March 3, 2026, following the death of the sitting MP. Today’s primary will determine which candidate will carry the NDC banner in the contest. Voting is currently underway, with results expected later today.
