NDC Condemns Bribery, Vote-Buying Allegations in Ayawaso East Primary, Launches Probe

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned reports of bribery and vote-buying during its parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency and has announced the immediate launch of a full investigation into the alleged misconduct.

In an official statement issued by the party’s National Secretariat on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the NDC said its national executives were alerted to claims that some aspirants allegedly engaged in inducement to influence delegates during the internal election held earlier today.

“The party vehemently condemns these actions in no uncertain terms as they represent an affront to the values and principles of the party and the reset agenda the party is championing,” the statement read.

The NDC confirmed that a comprehensive investigation has already been initiated. Any candidate or individual found guilty of misconduct will face swift disciplinary action.

The party further warned that any recurrence of such incidents could attract harsher penalties, including the possible cancellation of elections in areas where credible evidence of inducement is established.

The statement was signed by the NDC General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, who reaffirmed the leadership’s unwavering commitment to:

Upholding internal democratic processes

Safeguarding the integrity of party elections

Ensuring free, fair and transparent selection of candidates

The Ayawaso East primary was held to select the party’s candidate for the by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026, following the death of the late MP. The NDC has not named any specific aspirant in connection with the allegations at this stage.

The party called on all members, delegates and aspirants to remain calm while the investigation proceeds and to cooperate fully with the process. Further updates are expected as the probe continues.
