Nations FC have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after drawing 1-1 with FC Diarra in the second leg of their preliminary-round tie at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Ghana FA Cup holders went into the match needing to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit suffered in Bamako, but the result was not enough as the Malian side advanced 2-1 on aggregate.
Diallo denies Nations FC
Nations FC dominated large portions of the encounter and created several promising opportunities, but FC Diarra goalkeeper Yakouba Diallo produced a series of impressive saves to keep his side ahead on aggregate.
The Ghanaian side continued to push for the goals needed to overturn the deficit, but struggled to convert their chances.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 80th minute when Ouedraogo Fatahou fired home to level the match and raise hopes of a late turnaround.
FC Diarra, however, held their ground during the closing stages to secure the draw and book their place in the next round.
Ghana left without continental group-stage representative
Nations FC’s elimination means Ghana will have no representative in the group stage of either the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup or CAF Champions League.
Their exit follows Medeama SC’s earlier elimination from the CAF Champions League, leaving Ghana without a club in the group stage of either of Africa’s two major inter-club competitions.
Nations FC turn attention to Division One
Nations FC will now turn their attention to domestic football.
The club is set to compete in the Division One League after suffering relegation from the Ghana Premier League last season.
The focus will now be on rebuilding and returning to the top flight after their brief campaign on the continental stage.
