Nana Yaa Jantuah Advises NPP to Skip 2028 Presidential Race, Focus on Rebuilding

Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sit out the 2028 presidential election, warning that the party is not in a strong position to mount a credible challenge and risks a decisive defeat.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the opposition party is still reeling from its loss in the 2024 elections, with internal challenges continuing to weaken its focus and organisational strength.
“The biggest opposition party in Ghana should not be contesting the next elections. The shock from the 2024 defeat is still lingering, and it is affecting their ability to regroup. They should rather focus on rebuilding and possibly contest parliamentary seats,” she stated.
She contrasted the NPP’s current state with what she described as improving economic conditions under President John Dramani Mahama.
“With the improvements we are seeing, and the recognition President Mahama is receiving, it will be very difficult for the NPP to succeed in 2028, especially when many Ghanaians still see the party as divided and unsettled,” she added.
Nana Yaa Jantuah pointed to falling fuel prices as a key indicator of progress, sharing her personal experience of purchasing fuel for as little as GH¢200.
She also praised President Mahama’s leadership, noting that he has received the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award in West Africa, which she said reflects growing regional recognition of his performance.
The remarks have sparked debate within political circles, with some NPP supporters dismissing the advice as premature while others acknowledge the party’s ongoing internal challenges as it prepares for its flagbearer race scheduled for January 31, 2026.
