MTN Ghana CEO Denies Data Theft Claims, Explains Rapid Bundle Depletion

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN GHANA , has strongly denied allegations that the company is involved in the theft of customers’ internet data.
His comments come amid growing concerns from subscribers over the rapid depletion and, in some cases, unexplained loss of data bundles.
Addressing the issue on Friday, April 17, Mr Blewett dismissed the claims, stating that MTN has no incentive to manipulate customer data, as such actions would damage its reputation and drive customers away.
“There’s zero incentive for MTN to steal data from you. Because it will just chase people away. It’s not something we do; it’s not part of our values,” he said.
Instead, he attributed the situation to changing patterns in how people use data, particularly with the increasing reliance on smartphones and data-heavy applications.
According to him, several factors contribute to faster data consumption, including background activity from mobile apps, automatic updates, and the growing demand for high-quality video streaming.
Mr Blewett also encouraged customers to take a more active role in managing their data usage by monitoring app activity and adjusting device settings.
He advised users to control video streaming quality, disable unnecessary background processes, and regularly check which applications consume the most data.
“So there’s a lot that we have to do as customers. We have to be very responsible,” he added.
The remarks are part of ongoing efforts by MTN Ghana to address customer concerns and improve transparency around data usage.
