Messi’s Ibiza Mansion Defaced by Climate Activists: ‘Eat the Rich, Abolish the Police
Climate activists from the group Futuro Vegetal vandalized Lionel Messi’s €11 million mansion in Ibiza, painting it red and black, and sharing photos on social media. The protest aimed to highlight government policies exacerbating the climate crisis and social inequality.
The activists broke into the property, which they claim is an illegal construction, and held a banner reading, “Help the planet, eat the rich, abolish the police.” They criticized the economic system supported by public authorities, which they believe threatens life and perpetuates social inequality.
Futuro Vegetal stated that the richest 1% are responsible for the same amount of carbon emissions as the poorest two-thirds, emphasizing the need for radical change. They called for addressing the root causes of the climate crisis and social inequality.
Messi, who purchased the property in 2022, has not responded to the incident. The football star is currently on holiday after helping Argentina win the Copa America.
