Medeama SC Board Chairman Dr Toni Aubynn says the club is targeting the ultimate prize in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League as they prepare to represent Ghana in Africa’s elite club competition.
The Yellow and Mauve secured their place in the Champions League after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title and will begin their continental campaign against Congolese giants TP Mazembe in the preliminary round.
The two clubs are expected to meet later this month, with Medeama facing the daunting task of overcoming one of Africa’s most experienced sides.
However, Dr Aubynn insists Medeama will not approach the competition as mere participants, saying the club is determined to go all the way and make Ghana and the people of the Western Region proud.
“In the past, we wanted to progress to the money zone, but now our aim is to win the cup itself by making Ghana proud and the people of the Western Region proud. Our target is to go for the kill,” he told Graphic Sports.
Dr Aubynn acknowledged the difficulty of facing TP Mazembe at such an early stage, describing the Congolese giants as a formidable opponent.
Despite Medeama being regarded as the underdogs, he believes the Ghanaian champions have what it takes to compete strongly and give their more experienced opponents a difficult challenge.
He said Medeama would draw on the experience gained from their previous appearances in the CAF Champions League as they seek to make a strong impression on the continent.
Medeama are currently in Ivory Coast as part of their preparations for the upcoming season and their Champions League campaign.
