The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has described an alleged attempt by an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) official to take him into custody outside the Accra High Court as a “clear act of provocation”.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, shortly after Baffour Awuah represented Salomey Awiti Baffoe in court.
According to the MP, the woman identified herself as an EOCO official and told him he was required at the agency’s office.
He said he asked her to identify herself and explain why he was required at EOCO, but she allegedly failed to provide identification.
Baffour Awuah said he offered to follow her to the EOCO office in his own vehicle, but she insisted on taking him with her and allegedly held his hand.
“Clearly, she was there to provoke me because at that point, you don’t have an ID card that shows you are from EOCO,” Baffour Awuah said in an interview on Eyewitness News on Thursday, 24 September.
“You are there to also aggressively take me. It was a clear act of provocation, which, with the greatest of respect and the help of God, I was able to withstand.”
The confrontation continued as Baffour Awuah attempted to get into his Toyota Land Cruiser, with the EOCO official reportedly standing in his way.
He said he eventually drove away after the official moved aside.
Baffour Awuah questioned why he should have complied with the directive when, according to him, the woman had not provided evidence that she was acting on behalf of EOCO.
“If you were ever confronted by somebody, regardless of gender, and told you were needed by a state security agency, and you asked the person, ‘Where is your ID? What shows you are coming from that place,’ and the person fails to produce any sign about that, would you take that person seriously?” he asked.
The incident followed proceedings involving Salomey Awiti Baffoe, whom the prosecution has linked to the operator of the Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
Baffour Awuah is pursuing legal options over the court’s decision to remand his client, including an appeal and a possible application for bail pending the appeal.
