Mahama to Appoint Defence, Environment, Science Ministers After Holidays – Dismisses Rumours

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that appointments for the vacant ministerial portfolios of Defence, Environment, Science and Technology will be made after Christmas and New Year, quashing speculation of imminent announcements.

Speaking during a courtesy call by Muslim leaders at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, the President referenced the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Dr Edward Omane Boamah (Science and Technology) and Dr Murtala Mohammed (Defence), saying:

“They say Allah gives and Allah takes. He took two of our comrades, and we haven’t filled those positions yet.”

He firmly dismissed circulating rumours of immediate replacements, stating:

“I can see people speculating he is going to appoint a new Defence minister, a new Environment minister. We are not in a hurry.”

President Mahama assured that the appointments would be finalized early next year, post-holiday season:

“We will do those appointments next year. After the holiday, the Christmas and the holiday, we will fill those positions.”

The delay allows for proper consultation and ensures the new appointees are well-positioned to advance key national priorities in security, climate action, and technological innovation.
