Mahama Slams Government: ‘Worst Economic Crisis in Ghana’s History
Former President John Dramani Mahama has strongly criticized the current government, stating that the economic crisis in Ghana is the worst in the country’s history. He emphasized that “everything is declining under this government” and called for an urgent reset with experienced leadership.
Mahama, the NDC’s 2024 election flagbearer, spoke to the chiefs and people of the Zebilla constituency, highlighting the severity of the crisis, which extends beyond the economy to various institutions, affecting vulnerable populations. He attributed the crisis to excessive borrowing, mismanagement, and depreciation of the Cedi, leading to a significant increase in debt.
Mahama dismissed claims that the economic downturn was caused by COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, instead blaming mismanagement of funds received from international organizations. He also criticized the government’s handling of traditional industries, such as cocoa and oil production, which have declined significantly.
The former President emphasized the need for a change in leadership, stating that the current government has damaged every sector of the economy through mismanagement and “state capture.” He presented the NDC’s 24-hour economic policy as a solution to revive the economy and create jobs for the youth.
