Mahama Promises to Scrap Betting Tax and Create Jobs for Youth
Former President John Mahama has pledged to explore alternatives to the contentious betting tax and create abundant job opportunities for the youth if elected in December 2024. Speaking at a town hall meeting, Mahama emphasized his commitment to tackling key issues affecting Ghanaians, including unemployment and skills mismatch.
Mahama also reiterated his vow to abolish the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) and tax on betting winnings, criticizing the E-Levy for not meeting its revenue targets and imposing unnecessary financial strain on citizens.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) launched its 2024 Youth Manifesto, focusing on inclusivity, equal access, and youth empowerment. Mahama promised to create jobs, support digital startups, and train one million young Ghanaians in coding.
Other highlights of the manifesto include investing $3 billion in technology and fintech industries, implementing a 24-hour economy policy, and ensuring accessible healthcare services for young people.
The event featured passionate speeches from youth leaders, a video documentary, and a dance interlude, showcasing the party’s plans for the youth’s future.
