Mahama, Kufuor, and Akufo-Addo Honor Asantehemaa at Funeral Rites in Kumasi

President John Dramani Mahama, alongside Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, joined former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other dignitaries to pay their final respects to the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, during her funeral rites at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The ceremony drew thousands, including the Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, chiefs, ministers, MPs, former legislators, business leaders, and citizens from Ghana and beyond, all gathered to console Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the royal family. The late Queen Mother, who passed away on August 7, 2025, at age 98, was celebrated for her dedication to preserving Ashanti traditions and fostering unity.
Kumasi observed a near-total shutdown, with shops and markets closed as directed to maintain the solemnity of the rites. Security was heightened across the city as mourners flocked to the palace for the elaborate ceremonies honoring Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III’s legacy.
