Mahama Calls for Mass Protest Against Electoral Commission
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has called on party supporters and all Ghanaians to join the party’s nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday. Speaking at a mini rally in the Ga South Municipality, Mahama emphasized the need for pressure on the EC to ensure transparency and accountability in the upcoming elections.
Mahama stressed that the demonstration is not only for NDC supporters but for all Ghanaians who care about the credibility of the electoral process. He reiterated the NDC’s demand for a forensic audit of the EC to ensure the integrity of the elections.
The NDC has raised concerns about the EC’s preparedness for the upcoming elections, citing issues with voter registration, electoral reforms, and transparency. Mahama’s call for a demonstration comes after the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, reiterated the NDC’s concerns about the electoral process.
Nketiah emphasized the need for mutual understanding between the EC and all political parties, saying, “We have serious concerns about the process so far, and I believe we are engaging. The purpose of the engagement is to reach mutual conclusions acceptable to everyone.”
The NDC is hopeful that the commission will listen to their concerns and discharge their responsibilities in a way that will satisfy all participating parties. The demonstration on Tuesday is expected to be a show of force by the NDC and its supporters, demanding transparency and accountability from the EC.
