Mahama Appoints Ibrahim Issahaq and Yakubu Issifu as MMDCE Nominees for Atwima Mponua and Asante Mampong

President John Dramani Mahama nominated Ibrahim Issahaq for the Atwima Mponua District Assembly and Yakubu Issifu for the Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly as Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Ashanti Region, pending approval by their respective assemblies.
The nominations, announced in a letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, align with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
The appointments complete Mahama’s MMDCE selections for the Ashanti Region, where 41 of 43 assemblies had already received nominees, many of whom have been confirmed.
The delay in naming DCEs for Atwima Mponua and Asante Mampong had sparked concerns among assembly members, who cited stalled development projects due to the leadership vacuum.
Notably, 40 Atwima Mponua assembly members had petitioned for Sakina Oforiwaa, a former assemblywoman, highlighting local preferences that were overlooked in favor of Issahaq.
The nominations aim to strengthen local governance and accelerate development, with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs urging swift assembly approv
