Maame Adwoa Pinamang Appeals to Yaw Sarpong’s Family for Widowhood Rites Participation

Maame Adwoa Pinamang, former wife of the late gospel highlife legend Yaw Sarpong, has publicly appealed to his family to allow her to participate in his funeral arrangements and perform the traditional widowhood rites.

The request comes several months after a widely publicized controversy in which she appeared on Oyerepa Afutuo, a local television programme, accusing the singer of infidelity during their marriage. The interview drew significant attention and divided public opinion at the time.

In a video currently circulating online, the family head (abusuapanin) of the late musician is seen confronting Maame Adwoa Pinamang during a recent visit to the family home.

According to reports, she arrived accompanied by members of her own family to offer an apology for her earlier statements and to formally request permission to observe the customary widowhood rites.

The emotional encounter has generated mixed reactions on social media platforms:

Some Ghanaians and fans support her move, viewing it as a genuine attempt at reconciliation and closure.
Others question the timing of the appeal, arguing it comes too late and revives painful memories for the family.

As of now, the Sarpong family has not issued any official public statement regarding their position on her request or the performance of widowhood rites.

Yaw Sarpong, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest highlife and gospel musicians, passed away in January 2026, leaving behind an enduring legacy of timeless songs and mentorship of younger artistes. His death was followed shortly by that of his longtime backing vocalist, Maame Tiwaa.

Further developments are awaited as the family deliberates on the appeal.
