Lost Opportunity: Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe Believes Kwesi Nyantakyi Could Have Been FIFA’s First Black President
Hearts of Oak board member Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has expressed his conviction that Kwesi Nyantakyi would have become the first black president of FIFA if not for the devastating fallout from the Anas exposé. Speaking to Starr FM, Dr. Tamakloe lamented the lost opportunity for Africa to have representation at the highest levels of global football administration.
Nyantakyi, a prominent figure in African football, had a promising career trajectory, serving as GFA president and holding influential positions within FIFA and CAF. However, the 2018 investigative piece “Number 12” by Anas Aremeyaw Anas unveiled widespread corruption in Ghanaian football, featuring Nyantakyi allegedly accepting a $65,000 bribe. The revelations led to his resignation and a lifetime ban from FIFA.
Dr. Tamakloe believes Nyantakyi’s potential leadership role in FIFA would have been a groundbreaking milestone for African football. He reflected on the missed opportunity, emphasizing the significance of having African representation at the highest levels of global football administration.
