Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah Begins Tour of Mining Communities in Upper East Region
Focus on Talensi, Nabdam and Bawku West Districts as Government Seeks Stronger Oversight and Maximum Benefits from Rising Gold Discoveries

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, will today, Wednesday, March 25, 2026, commence a working tour of key mining communities in the Upper East Region.
The two-day visit is aimed at assessing current mining activities, identifying challenges facing operators, and engaging directly with local stakeholders to ensure responsible and sustainable mining practices in the region.
Key Areas to Be Visited
The minister’s itinerary will focus particularly on:
- Talensi District — widely regarded as the mining hub of the Upper East Region
- Nabdam District
- Bawku West District
These areas have seen a significant rise in small-scale mining activities in recent years, following fresh gold discoveries across several districts.
During the tour, Hon. Buah is expected to:
- Inspect ongoing mining operations
- Hold meetings with small-scale miners, traditional authorities, district assemblies, and security agencies
- Listen to concerns and challenges faced by operators
- Assess the level of compliance with mining regulations and environmental standards
The visit forms part of the government’s broader commitment to strengthen oversight in the mining sector, promote responsible mining, curb illegal activities, and ensure that mining communities derive maximum benefits from their natural resources.
The Upper East Region’s growing importance in Ghana’s mining landscape has made effective regulation and community engagement increasingly critical.
Further details on specific engagements and outcomes of the ministerial tour are expected to be released as the visit progresses.
