Kumasi High Court Rejects Akosua Serwaa’s Marriage Claim; Declares Both Women as Widows in Daddy Lumba Case

The Kumasi High Court 5 has ruled in a big case about the late highlife star Daddy Lumba’s marriages.
The judge, Her Ladyship Justice Mrs. Dorinda Smith Arthur (PhD), said Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni are both legal widows. This clears up years of fights over who was truly married to Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known as Daddy Lumba.
The court said Akosua Serwaa, seen as the first wife, did not prove a civil marriage. Her 74-page judgment explained it was only a customary marriage under Ghanaian tradition. So, Akosua Serwaa cannot claim to be the only surviving spouse.
But the court also said Priscilla Ofori, called Odo Broni, was legally married to Daddy Lumba too. She has full rights as a widow.
The ruling came in a full courtroom. It stops more arguments and honors the law.
Certified copies of the full judgment will be ready on December 1, 2025. Lawyers and families can get them then.
The court also said Daddy Lumba’s family will decide who does the widowhood rites. This keeps peace and follows culture.
