Kudus Regrets Red Card in Tottenham Loss, Accepts FA’s Extended Suspension and Fine

West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus has expressed regret over his red card in the team’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham last month, after the FA extended his suspension by two additional matches.

The Ghanaian winger, originally handed a three-match ban for violent conduct and unsporting behavior, was involved in an altercation during the 82nd minute of the heated encounter. Kudus fouled Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, which led to a confrontation between players from both teams.

Van de Ven accused Kudus of “punching him in the face,” and West Ham’s Kudus was also seen shoving Spurs’ Pape Matar Sarr. Initially booked with a yellow card, Kudus’ punishment was upgraded to a red following a VAR review, resulting in an automatic three-match suspension.

Further investigation by the FA saw his ban extended by two games, and he was fined £60,000 for his actions.

In a letter to the FA’s regulatory commission, Kudus admitted to being “deeply embarrassed” by his conduct and accepted the charge. He described his behavior as “out of character,” acknowledging the incident’s minimal contact with Van de Ven, as shown in video footage. Kudus also mentioned the personal and professional stress he was under before the match, including negative social media comments and a recent international trip.

Already missing West Ham’s matches against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, Kudus will also be absent for their upcoming fixture against Everton as he serves out his extended suspension.
