Juaso Police Arrest Five-Member Gang Over Robbery and Rape of Young Women

Police at Juaso under the Ashanti South Regional Command have arrested a gang allegedly responsible for a series of robberies and sexual assaults targeting young women, particularly students, along the Juaso–Morso corridor.
The gang is accused of luring victims into a private vehicle under the guise of offering them lifts or proposing romantic relationships, before driving them to secluded locations where they were robbed and, in several cases, raped.
According to police, twelve suspects were initially arrested in connection with the crimes. However, following preliminary investigations, seven were cleared of involvement and granted bail. The remaining five suspects were identified as David Adusah, alias “Viber” (19), believed to be the ringleader; Samuel Amantor, alias “Road” (21); Andrew Odei, alias “Salinco” (21); Sharif Mohammed, alias “Isco” (18); and Joseph Addo Ofori, alias “Moves” (22).
The suspects were arraigned before the Konongo District Court on January 8, 2026, on provisional charges of conspiracy, robbery, and rape. They have been remanded into custody and are expected to reappear in court on January 28, 2026.
Police investigations revealed that the gang typically pushed victims out of their vehicle or abandoned them in bushy areas after robbing and assaulting them.
Among the incidents linked to the suspects is an alleged attack on August 15, 2025, when three female students attending remedial classes at Kurofa Senior High School were reportedly picked up in front of the school around 8:00 p.m. The victims were driven under threat of death to a location near Juaso and robbed of their mobile phones.
On October 6, 2025, the suspects allegedly lured two women into their vehicle under the pretext of romantic interest, drove them to Morso, robbed them of their phones, and raped one of them. Another incident on November 10, 2025, involved a woman who was allegedly forced into the car at knifepoint, driven to Morso, robbed, and raped.
Police further linked the gang to a January 2, 2026 incident at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi, where a female victim was reportedly robbed after being lured into the suspects’ vehicle. She was spared sexual assault only because she was menstruating at the time.
The suspects were arrested at New Abirem in the Eastern Region following coordinated efforts between police at Juaso and the Abirem Police Command.
Briefing journalists, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Nyaaba, said a search of the suspects’ room uncovered a military camouflage uniform, a photograph of the alleged gang leader in military attire, 49 mobile phone covers believed to belong to victims, and a bayonet case. A Toyota RAV4 vehicle suspected to have been used in the criminal operations was also seized.
DCOP Nyaaba assured the public of the Police Service’s commitment to protecting residents and urged victims of similar attacks to come forward to assist ongoing investigations.
