John Mahama Draws Unprecedented Crowd in Ashanti Region Campaign Rally
Mahama Stunned by Unprecedented Support During Ashanti Region Campaign
Former President John Dramani Mahama was visibly moved by the overwhelming turnout during his six-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region. The highlight of the tour, the “Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni” walk on December 1, 2024, saw thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters flood Kumasi’s streets, calling for change ahead of the December 7 elections.
Addressing the energized crowd at Jubilee Park, Mahama expressed disbelief at the massive show of support, remarking, “Are we in Kumasi? Am I dreaming? Somebody should wake me up.” His astonishment underscored the rally’s impact in a region traditionally dominated by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The campaign kicked off with a visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace. Mahama’s tour included community engagements and mini-campaign rallies in Offinso North, Offinso South, Atwima Nwabiagya North, and Atwima Mponua constituencies.
The enthusiastic reception signals growing support for the NDC in a historically NPP-leaning region, potentially reshaping the dynamics of the upcoming elections.
