John Kofi Ansah Cleared to Run in GHALCA Election After Petition Dismissal
The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has dismissed a petition seeking to disqualify John Kofi Ansah, allowing him to compete in the chairmanship election on January 21, 2025.
The petition accused Ansah of past misconduct, including alleged match ticket racketeering in 1996 and match manipulation in 2016. The claims cited Articles 9 (1) (b) and 9 (1) (h) of the GHALCA Constitution, which require members to maintain high moral standards and avoid actions that could damage the association’s reputation.
Election Committee’s Decision
GHALCA’s Election Committee reviewed the petition and concluded it lacked evidence to substantiate disqualification. Ansah provided key documents, including:
- A police clearance report dated December 30, 2024.
- A court ruling proving his acquittal and discharge from accusations in an Accra Circuit Court.
“The petition lacks sufficient evidence to substantiate any conviction of the Respondent. Disqualifying a candidate solely based on unproven allegations or media reports would be unduly harsh,” the Committee stated.
Election Details
John Kofi Ansah’s candidacy is part of a competitive race to replace Kudjoe Fianoo, who has served as GHALCA chairman for eight years. The election will involve 134 voters:
- 36 from the Premier League.
- 48 from Division One.
- 30 from the Regional Football Associations (RFAs).
- 20 from the Women’s Premier League.
Among the competitors is Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, making his third bid after unsuccessful campaigns in 2016 and 2020.
This decision ensures Ansah remains a prominent candidate, as the election moves forward on January 21, 2025.
