Importers and Exporters Commend GoldBod, BoG for Supporting Forex Stability

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has commended the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for measures it says are contributing to foreign exchange stability and improved economic conditions.
According to the Association, the relative stability of the foreign exchange market has provided greater predictability for importers and exporters, allowing businesses to plan their international transactions with increased confidence.
Speaking at a press conference, Executive Director of the IEAG, Samson Asaki Awingobit, said GoldBod’s trading policies had contributed to strengthening Ghana’s foreign exchange position and improving access to foreign exchange for legitimate business activities.
He also praised the Bank of Ghana for its measures aimed at maintaining macroeconomic and financial stability.
Mr Awingobit particularly welcomed the reduction in interest rates, saying lower borrowing costs could provide relief to businesses that depend on credit to finance their operations.
The IEAG cited figures from the Bank of Ghana’s Financial Stability Review, which showed that the average lending rate declined from 30.3 per cent in December 2024 to 20.5 per cent in December 2025.
According to the Association, further reductions in lending rates would help importers and exporters access working capital to purchase goods, maintain operations and meet international trade obligations.
Mr Awingobit urged GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana to sustain and deepen measures aimed at maintaining foreign exchange stability and reducing the cost of borrowing.
He said such measures would be particularly important ahead of the Yuletide period, when demand for foreign exchange, credit and imported goods is expected to rise.
The Association maintained that continued stability in the foreign exchange market, coupled with lower interest rates, would help businesses plan more effectively and contribute to a more supportive environment for international trade.
