I THINK INAKI SHOULD BE DROPPED BECAUSE HE HAS SHOWN NOTHING SINCE HE JOINED BLACKSTARS – AMANKWA MIREKU
Former Hearts of Oak captain Amankwa Mireku has expressed his disappointment with Inaki Williams’ performance in the Black Stars and suggests that the striker should be “excused” from the national team due to his underwhelming contributions.
Williams, who decided to play for Ghana in 2022, had raised hopes among fans due to his impressive La Liga performances with Athletic Club. However, after 11 appearances for the Black Stars, he has yet to score a goal, leading to a decline in the initial excitement surrounding his switch.
“Since his debut for Ghana, what has he to show? Absolutely nothing. He is yet to find the back of the net upfront, and other players also deserve a chance to demonstrate their abilities.” Amankwa said.
The former Spain international made his switch to the Black Stars in June 2022 but has yet to make a significant impact. In the recent October international break, he continued to struggle, failing to score in games against Mexico and the USA.
Williams featured as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat against Mexico, a match in which the Black Stars didn’t manage a shot on target. He also started in the 4-0 loss to the USA, where the team had only two shots on target.
Born in Spain to Ghanaian parents, Williams had previously played for Spain, earning one cap in 2016. However, he was not called up to the Spanish national team thereafter, leading him to consider Ghana’s advances and make the switch in June 2022. So far, Williams has scored three international goals, all while representing Spain U-21.
