Horrific Sex Trafficking Ring Busted in Ghana: 39 Nigerians Arrested, 33 Young Women Rescued from Abuse

A major police sting in Nipanekro near Subin, Upper Denkyira West District, has dismantled a brutal human trafficking and sex exploitation network, resulting in the arrest of 39 people on prostitution and drug charges.

The Central North Regional Police Command, tipped off about the operation, uncovered a “complex web of modern-day slavery” preying on vulnerable young women.

Of the 39 arrested, 33 are female Nigerian nationals aged 16 to 25, now reclassified as “victims of circumstance” rather than suspects. They will be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for deportation to Nigeria. The remaining six are Ghanaian men suspected of drug dealing to support the ring.

Central North Regional Police Commander ACP Abraham Acquaye detailed the “horrific abuses” during a media briefing, including forced prostitution with daily quotas of up to 20 clients per woman. Failure to meet targets—GH¢1,000 on Mondays, GH¢500 otherwise—allegedly led to punishments like being forced to “eat faeces” from their boss, a woman known as “Mama Rich.”

Victims told Adom News reporter Alfred Amoh of additional coercion: naked oaths at shrines threatening madness if they fled. The operation highlights the intersection of trafficking, drugs, and spiritual manipulation exploiting West African vulnerabilities.

The six male suspects remain in custody for further investigation. This raid underscores rising cross-border trafficking from Nigeria to Ghana, often linked to economic desperation and cybercrime syndicates.
