Hearts of Oak Return to Accra Sports Stadium for Remainder of 2025–26 GPL Season
GFA Confirms Venue Switch After University of Ghana Stadium Closure for Renovations – Phobians Eye Title Push from Traditional Home Ground

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially confirmed that Accra Hearts of Oak will play all their remaining home matches in the 2025–26 Ghana Premier League season at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The decision follows the temporary closure of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, which is scheduled for major renovation and redevelopment works.
In an official statement, the GFA explained that the shutdown of the Legon facility necessitated the return of the Phobians to their historic home ground in the heart of Accra.
Venue History This Season
Hearts of Oak kicked off the campaign at the Accra Sports Stadium, where they hosted five league matches. They then relocated to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, playing seven fixtures there before the venue became unavailable.
The switch back to the Accra Sports Stadium — a venue long associated with the club’s glory days — comes at a crucial stage of the season.
Current Standing and Remaining Fixtures
Hearts of Oak currently sit fourth on the Ghana Premier League table, trailing runaway leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by six points with eight matches left to play.
Under head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, the team has shown strong form in recent weeks and remains firmly in the title race. Of their remaining games:
- Five will now be played at home (Accra Sports Stadium)
- Three are away fixtures
The return to familiar surroundings is expected to provide a significant boost, with the passionate Hearts faithful anticipated to turn out in large numbers to support the club’s push for a first league title in several years.
The Accra Sports Stadium, despite occasional maintenance challenges, remains one of Ghana’s premier football venues and has hosted countless memorable Phobians moments over the decades.
No specific timeline has been provided for the completion of renovations at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, but the GFA has assured that the temporary arrangement will not affect the integrity of the league competition.
Hearts of Oak fans have welcomed the news, viewing the move as a return to “home” at a make-or-break phase of the campaign.
