Head-On Collision at Eduadjei on Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway Injures 11 People

A serious road accident at Eduadjei along the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway left 11 people injured on Monday evening when an Opel Astra and a Nissan mini bus collided head-on.
The Central Regional Fire Service reported that the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. The Opel Astra, registration number WR 4860-13, was traveling from Cape Coast towards Komenda when it smashed into the Nissan mini bus, registration CR 1414-23, heading in the opposite direction from Takoradi to Cape Coast.
Ten passengers from the mini bus — eight males and two females — were quickly rescued by passersby and rushed to the Elmina Polyclinic for medical attention. Firefighters worked carefully to free the driver of the Opel Astra, who was trapped inside the wreckage. He was later taken to the same hospital by the National Ambulance Service.
Rescue teams cleared debris from the road to reopen the highway and restore safe traffic flow. Officials confirmed that no fatalities were recorded, but the injured are receiving treatment for various wounds and suspected fractures.
The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation, with police examining factors such as speed, visibility, road conditions and possible driver error. Preliminary observations suggest the narrow stretch and evening lighting may have played a role.
The incident has once again drawn attention to safety concerns on this busy highway, where head-on crashes and overtaking accidents have been reported frequently in recent months. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, maintain safe speeds and avoid risky maneuvers, especially during low-light conditions.
The Ghana Police Service and National Road Safety Commission have appealed for eyewitness accounts or dashcam footage to assist with the ongoing inquiry. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families as they recover from this frightening ordeal.
