Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh Assassinated in Purported Israeli Strike in Tehran
According to the Iranian state media, Ismail Haniyeh, the political head of Hamas, was assassinated on Wednesday in Tehran, Iran.
Hamas acknowledged the death of Haniyeh and blamed it on a “treacherous Zionist raid” against his residence in the Iranian capital. The IRGC—Jose Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—has also released a statement, in which it has been revealed that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in a shelling attack on the building where they were staying.
That Being the case, the IRGC has clarified that Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, conducted on Tuesday. The incident has heightened tension in the area, with Hamas promising to avenge Haniyeh’s death.
