Gunmen Kill Police Officer, Injure Others on Northern Ghana Highway

 

Unidentified gunmen have killed one police officer and injured several others in a late-night attack on the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway in northern Ghana.

The incident happened around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Karimenga, a community along this buGunmensy route known for past security issues.

According to policGunmene reports, the attackers first ambushed a passenger bus, triggering a distress call. Responding officers arrived quickly and managed to stop the initial assault, forcing the gunmen to flee into nearby bushes.

But the attackers came back for a second strike, this time targeting the police checkpoint at Karimenga.

In the chaos, one officer who was sitting down was shot in the head from behind and died instantly. Two other officers who fired back at the gunmen were hit in the legs and are now recovering in a hospital (location kept secret for safety).

The reason behind the attack is still unknown—police say it could be linked to highway robberies, which have happened on this road before.

For now, all police personnel have been pulled off the highway while a full investigation gets underway. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help catch those responsible.

This shocking event highlights growing concerns about safety on major roads in the region, and many are calling for stronger security measures to protect travelers and officers.
