Guinness World Records Debunks Claims of 4-Day Eating Marathon by Afua Nash
Guinness World Records (GWR) has officially debunked claims made by Ghanaian content creator Clementina Nkrumah, also known as Afua Nash, regarding her upcoming four-day, seven-hour, and 20-minute non-stop eating marathon. The event was set to begin on Monday, November 11, 2024, and would have been streamed live on her Instagram page during the Savage Room show at Afropod Studios.
However, in a statement via Twitter, GWR clarified that it no longer recognizes records for extended eating marathons. The organization explained that while such feats were once tracked, their guidelines have changed. Guinness World Records now focuses on consumption records based on the consumption rate, rather than the duration of the eating attempt.
According to the updated rules, any consumption records are typically limited to a short time frame of up to three minutes, depending on the type of food being consumed. This marks a shift from the previous practice, where marathon-style eating records were measured by how long participants could continue eating without a break.
Here is the full statement from GWR on Twitter:
“We no longer monitor records for eating over a long period of time, though we did in the past. Nowadays, we still have consumption records but they are based on the rate of consumption and so are limited to a short time frame of up to three minutes, depending on the food…”
The clarification ends speculation about Afua Nash’s planned eating challenge and highlights the evolving nature of Guinness World Records’ approach to unusual feats. While the 4-day marathon was set to draw significant attention, the new guidelines make it clear that the organization is no longer tracking such long-duration attempts.
Afua Nash has yet to respond to the GWR statement, but her plans for the event, which were promoted as a world-record attempt, may now need to be restructured to align with GWR’s updated criteria.
