GRNMA President Warns Against Unprofessional Use of Nurses’ and Midwives’ Uniforms

The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, has cautioned content creators and members of the public against the unprofessional use of nurses’ and midwives’ uniforms, particularly in social media videos and other online productions.

Mrs Ofori-Ampofo expressed concern about individuals who are not professionally trained health practitioners wearing nurses’ and midwives’ uniforms to create content that promotes unethical behaviour and undermines the integrity of the professions.

She stressed the need to protect the dignity and professional image of nurses and midwives, emphasising that their uniforms represent a profession built on ethics, discipline, responsibility and public trust.

“The use of nurses’ and midwives’ uniforms in social media content must reflect the dignity, ethics, and professional standards of the nursing and midwifery professions,” Mrs Ofori-Ampofo said.

She further urged trained nurses and midwives to uphold the ethical standards of their respective professions and exercise professionalism in their conduct, both online and offline.

According to the GRNMA President, healthcare professionals must remain conscious of how their actions and online activities shape public perceptions of the nursing and midwifery professions.

The Association maintains that the misuse of health workers’ uniforms for inappropriate social media content is unacceptable, calling for greater respect for the professional identity of nurses and midwives.

She also urged professionals to use social media to create awareness for the benefit of the public.
