Government Increases Free Healthcare Insurance Policy Income by 50% – Jaman North Health Insurance Manager
The government has increased the free healthcare insurance policy income by 50% to enhance quality treatment for citizens who visit clinics and hospitals, according to Mr Abdulia Freeman, Health Insurance Manager for Jaman North.
Speaking to a journalist, Mr Freeman said the policy covers 95% of various treatments at clinic or hospital facilities. For the remaining 5% that cannot be covered under the scheme, the government has introduced the Ghana Medical Fund, known as Mahama Care, to help treat certain diseases such as cancer and hole in the heart free of charge.
He further stated that the government has also trained nurses who will visit individuals in their homes, workplaces and other locations for free screening, noting that many citizens rarely visit hospitals and clinics for screening even though it is free.
Mr Freeman added that after screening, if there is the need to visit the hospital for treatment, the nurses will recommend it.
He cautioned that anyone who requests payment after screening should be reported to their office.
