GoldBod Dismisses Claims of GH¢200 Million Loss to Licensed Gold Dealer

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rejected claims circulating on social media that it lost GH¢200 million to a licensed gold dealer, describing the publication as false and intended to mislead the public.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, the Board denied allegations that the owner of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, Dominic Bonsu, had absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to GoldBod. It also dismissed claims that Mr Bonsu was a former bodyguard to the institution’s Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.

“Mr. Dominic Bonsu has never, at any point, served as a bodyguard or personal security officer to the Chief Executive Officer of the GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi. Any suggestion to the contrary is completely false,” the statement said.

Additionally, GoldBod insisted that it had not advanced GH¢200 million, or any other amount, to Mr Bonsu or his company.

According to the Board, Dominic Bonsu Ventures came under investigation after it was suspected of breaching the terms and conditions of its licence as well as the GoldBod Trading Directives under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

It said the company’s licence was subsequently suspended, leading to enforcement action against Mr Bonsu.

GoldBod disclosed that Mr Bonsu was later arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where legal proceedings against him are ongoing.

The Board expressed concern over what it described as attempts to distort the facts surrounding the case through the spread of misinformation.

It urged the public to disregard the social media publication and rely only on information released through GoldBod’s official communication channels.
