The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned residents in parts of northern Ghana to prepare for moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds expected to affect several regions.
In a weather alert, GMet said the weather system was approaching the north-eastern parts of the country and was expected to affect the Upper East, North East and Northern regions first, with rainfall likely to begin within the next hour.
The system is expected to move westwards later in the day, bringing rainfall to the Upper West and Savannah regions.
Thunderstorms and strong winds expected
GMet said the weather system could produce varying intensities of rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas.
Residents in the affected regions have been advised to take the forecast into consideration when planning their activities and to allow additional time for travel.
The public has also been encouraged to avoid travelling during periods of peak rainfall where possible.
Motorists urged to exercise caution
Motorists have been particularly advised to exercise caution on the roads as visibility and road conditions may deteriorate during heavy rainfall.
Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed, use headlights and avoid crossing flooded roads or low-lying bridges.
Farmers and outdoor workers advised to prepare
GMet has also urged farmers, market traders and outdoor workers to take precautions before the storm arrives.
They have been advised to secure loose materials, farm produce and equipment that could be displaced or damaged by strong winds.
Communities prone to flooding have also been urged to remain vigilant, particularly those in flood-prone and riverside areas near Dambai and along the Oti River.

GMet is encouraging residents to continue monitoring official weather updates as the system develops and to take appropriate precautions if conditions worsen.
The alert covers the Upper East, North East, Northern, Upper West and Savannah regions.
