Ghana’s AFCON Qualification Hopes in Jeopardy: Coach Calls for World Cup Shift
AFCON Qualification Hopes Fading
Frimpong Manso, head coach of Bibiani Gold Stars, has sparked debate with his bold suggestion that Ghana’s Black Stars prioritize World Cup qualification over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Manso’s comments come after Ghana’s underwhelming performance in the AFCON Qualifiers, where they currently sit third in Group F with five points separating them from second-placed Sudan.
“We should forget about AFCON and instead focus on World Cup qualification,” Manso stated in an interview with Akoma FM.
Assessing the current Black Stars squad, Manso emphasized the need for commitment and passion:
“With this group, we should have easily qualified without any mathematical calculations. Our team has lacked the commitment to truly ‘die for the nation.’ Otto Addo should drop all players who are unwilling to play because, based on their current performances, our local players can outperform them.”
Manso’s remarks highlight growing concerns about the Black Stars’ dedication and teamwork.
