Ghanaian Peacekeepers in Lebanon Remain in High Spirits Despite Missile Attack on Base

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reassured the public that its peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon are maintaining strong morale and remain in high spirits following a recent missile attack on their battalion headquarters.

In an official statement released by the GAF Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, the military provided an update on the condition of the affected personnel and facilities.

The statement confirmed that four soldiers were injured during the attack. Three sustained minor injuries, while one soldier was critically injured. The critically injured peacekeeper has since undergone successful surgery and is responding well to treatment. All four injured personnel are now reported to be in stable condition.

Additionally, the 14 officers whose accommodation was completely destroyed in the incident have been fully re-kitted, re-accommodated, and provided with all necessary support to continue their duties.

“Despite the incident, the Battalion is in high spirits and morale remains high,” the statement emphasized.

The Ghana Armed Forces expressed deep appreciation to Ghanaians for the overwhelming show of solidarity and support following news of the attack.

“The Ghana Armed Forces expresses its profound gratitude to the general public for the continued solidarity,” it added.

The statement was signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.

The update comes after earlier reports of the March 6 missile strikes, which also damaged infrastructure including the Officers’ Mess. Ghanaian troops have since taken refuge in underground bunkers for added safety amid the fragile security situation along the Israel-Lebanon border.

The Ghana Armed Forces continues to prioritize the welfare of its personnel deployed under UNIFIL and remains committed to supporting their mission to maintain peace and stability in the region.
