Ghanaian Forward Ayew Scores Hat-Trick, But Reveals Frustrations with Being Played Out of Position

Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew emerged as the hero for Ghana on Monday night, scoring a hat-trick in their thrilling 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

Ghana’s star forward, André Ayew, scored a thrilling hat-trick in the national team’s recent match, taking his international goal tally to 28 and making him the country’s sixth-highest scorer of all time. However, despite his impressive performance, Ayew expressed frustration about being deployed out of position for both his club and country.

In a post-match interview, the 32-year-old Crystal Palace forward revealed that he has been playing out of position for some time, but has always prioritized his country’s interests and refused to complain. Ayew, who prefers to play as a number nine, acknowledged his versatility and willingness to adapt to different roles.

“I’ve been playing out of position for quite some time in the national team and also at the club level,” Ayew said. “But I have always done my duty, put my country first, and never complained because I always give my all.”

Ayew’s hat-trick marked his eighth goal in five games, making him the oldest player in the Ghana squad. The forward’s impressive form has earned him recognition as a key player for his country, but his comments about being played out of position highlight the challenges he faces in finding consistency in his game.

The Ghanaian Football Association has yet to comment on Ayew’s remarks, but the forward’s honesty has sparked debate about the team’s tactical decisions and the need for players to be deployed in their preferred positions.
