Ghana Signs MoU with Columbus, Ohio to Open Pathway for Nurses to Work in the United States
Ghana has secured a new pathway for qualified nurses to take up jobs in the United States after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the city of Columbus, Ohio.
The agreement was signed by Ghana’s ministries of Health and Labour, Jobs and Employment following months of technical discussions with their US counterparts.
It will lay the groundwork for the ethical recruitment and deployment of Ghanaian health professionals, particularly nurses.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said the MoU goes beyond recruitment, stressing that any deployment must protect the rights, welfare and professional interests of Ghanaian health workers.
He said the initiative is part of efforts to secure credible international employment opportunities in line with Ghana’s migration policy and international standards.
According to him, the partnership builds on the existing sister-city relationship between Accra and Columbus and the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme.
