Ghana School of Law Student Dies After Collapsing During Lecture – SRC Raises Alarm Over Campus Emergency Response

A student of the Ghana School of Law tragically passed away after collapsing during a lecture on Saturday, March 21, 2026, sparking serious concerns about the availability and effectiveness of emergency medical services on campus.

In an official statement released on Monday, March 23, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) confirmed that the student suffered a sudden medical emergency in the middle of an academic session.

According to the SRC, fellow students immediately assisted the victim and rushed him to Ridge Hospital for urgent treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Council described the loss as “profound” and extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, close friends, classmates, and the entire Ghana School of Law community.

The SRC acknowledged that school management has already begun providing counselling and psychological support services to students affected by the tragedy.

Concerns Over Campus Clinic Accessibility

However, the SRC raised serious questions about the school’s emergency preparedness after reports emerged that the on-campus clinic was not accessible at the time of the incident. This, the Council said, highlights critical gaps in student safety and the institution’s ability to respond swiftly to medical emergencies.

“The development raises critical issues about student safety and the effectiveness of emergency response systems on campus,” the statement read.

SRC Demands Urgent Action

The SRC has formally requested an emergency meeting with school management to:

Establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident

Review the functionality and accessibility of the campus clinic

Advocate for immediate and long-term improvements to healthcare infrastructure and emergency protocols

Among the key proposals the SRC is pushing for are:

Enhanced and reliable access to on-campus medical services at all times

Clearly defined and well-communicated emergency response protocols

Increased investment in health facilities and trained first-aid personnel on campus

The Council stressed that the safety, health, and well-being of students remain its top priority and vowed to maintain sustained engagement with management to ensure such a tragedy is never repeated.

The Ghana School of Law has not yet issued a separate public statement on the incident, but sources indicate that internal support measures are underway while investigations into the circumstances continue.

The student community and alumni have expressed shock and grief, with many calling for swift reforms to prevent future delays in life-saving care on campus.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and classmates of the deceased during this painful time.
