Ghana Prisons Service Marks One Year of Reforms Under Director-General Baffoe-Bonnie

The Ghana Prisons Service is marking one year under the leadership of Director-General Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, with officers describing her tenure as a period of reform and renewed direction.

The milestone, observed on March 17, 2026, has been highlighted by officers at the Manhyia Local Prison, who commended the Director-General for her impact since assuming office.

In a message, Officer-in-Charge DDP Hannah Hilda Ewoame praised Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie’s leadership, describing it as focused and transformative, driven by strategic reforms and a clear vision for the Service. She noted that the “Think Prisons 360 Degrees” initiative has significantly improved both the image and operations of the institution.

Over the past year, the Service has recorded progress in staff welfare, institutional capacity, internal communication, and the strengthening of discipline and professionalism among officers. According to DDP Ewoame, these reforms have also contributed to increased public confidence in the Ghana Prisons Service.

She further expressed confidence in the Director-General’s continued leadership and assured her of the full support and commitment of officers at the Manhyia Local Prison.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie’s one-year anniversary comes as the Service continues to implement reforms aimed at strengthening its mandate and improving conditions across Ghana’s prison system.
