Ghana Premier League Set for VAR Introduction in Second Round
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku is advocating for the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the second round of the Ghana Premier League, slated for January 2025.
A two-day meeting between the GFA and FIFA experts, Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, discussed VAR technology and procedures. Referees Manager and VAR team leader, Alex Kotey, confirmed Okraku’s desire to implement VAR, citing enhanced officiating standards.
The GFA awaits FIFA’s official approval to proceed with VAR implementation in Ghana’s domestic leagues. The introduction of VAR is expected to improve accuracy in refereeing decisions, enhance the fan experience, and increase competitiveness.
Okraku is confident VAR will elevate the Ghana Premier League’s standards. The move aligns with his vision to modernize Ghanaian football.
