Ghana Police Refute Claims of Raid on Bono East NPP Chairman’s House, Clarify Robbery Operation in Techiman

Ghana Police Service issued a statement refuting media reports alleging a police raid on the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Techiman, which reportedly resulted in a death.
The police categorically denied any such raid, clarifying that the incident involved a targeted operation against a robbery gang.
According to the police, on August 1, 2025, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers from the Bono East Regional Police Command, acting on intelligence, intercepted a group of robbery suspects scaling a wall to escape after a robbery attempt in Techiman.
During the operation, one suspect, identified as Seidu Bukari, sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that Bukari was a known member of a robbery gang notorious for stealing motorbikes in Techiman and surrounding areas for resale in Kumasi. He was also wanted as an accomplice in a similar case under investigation.
The police confirmed that the operation took place at a property later identified as belonging to Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari. A motorbike and other implements used by the gang were recovered, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled.
To ensure transparency, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The police reiterated their commitment to combating crime while addressing misinformation surrounding the event.
