Ghana Police Recover 10 Stolen Vehicles Trafficked from Netherlands in Joint Operation

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has recovered 10 stolen vehicles smuggled from the Netherlands, marking a major win in the fight against transnational vehicle trafficking.
The vehicles—eight Toyota RAV4s and two Toyota CH-Rs—were tracked and retrieved between September 15 and 17, 2025, from locations including Kantamanto, Nima, and Cantonments in Accra.
Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, announced the breakthrough at a press conference on September 20, crediting collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy and Digitpol, a security firm partnering with Dutch police.
COP Donkor emphasized that vehicle theft inflicts financial harm on victims, tarnishes Ghana’s global image, and often funds other organized crimes. She noted this recovery builds on earlier successes, including 43 luxury vehicles seized from January to July 2025.
The operation involved national partners like the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, underscoring the value of global cooperation.
The CID urged the public to verify vehicle ownership documents and check with INTERPOL Accra before purchases to avoid scams. Investigations continue, with more recoveries expected soon.
This effort aligns with broader INTERPOL initiatives in West Africa, where stolen vehicles from Europe and Canada are increasingly intercepted.
