Ghana Police Officers Promoted for Heroic Actions in Foiling Fuel Tanker Robbery

Two Ghana Police Service officers have been promoted for their bravery and quick action in thwarting a fuel tanker robbery and rescuing two victims during a snap check operation in the Greater Accra Region.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno honored Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and Lance Constable Joseph Akondoh, both from the Anyah District Police Command, alongside four Community Police Assistants (CPAs), at a ceremony held at Police Headquarters on August 8, 2025. The officers were recognized for their diligence and vigilance during an operation at Ablekuma Borkorborkor that led to the arrest of seven suspects.
The incident occurred in the early hours of August 7, 2025, around 12:30 a.m., when the officers stopped a green pickup truck during routine vehicle checks. Two passengers in the truck’s open bucket jumped out, alerting the officers to a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker near Nsawam the previous night. Acting swiftly, the officers rescued the victims and apprehended one suspect, while others fled. Follow-up operations in the Eastern Region resulted in the arrest of six additional suspects and the recovery of the stolen tanker and other evidence.
Constable Joseph Akondoh was promoted to Lance Corporal, while Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka was recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, paving the way for her potential commission into the Senior Officer Corps upon successful completion.
IGP Yohuno praised the officers and CPAs for their exemplary professionalism, urging all personnel to follow their example of vigilance and commitment. He reiterated the Police Administration’s commitment to rewarding outstanding service, emphasizing the importance of such dedication in ensuring public safety.
