Ghana Gold Board Partners with Geological Survey Authority on GH¢27.5 Million Project to Boost Responsible Mining

The Ghana Gold Board has signed a GH¢27.5 million agreement with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority to conduct detailed geological investigations in three mineralised zones, marking a major step toward data-driven and sustainable gold mining in the country.

The four-month project, launched under the first phase of the initiative, will target blocked-out mineral areas in Funsi, Atuna, and Bensere East. The study aims to produce reliable, high-quality geological data that can guide the development of model mines and improve overall mineral resource management.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Geological Survey Authority will lead the technical investigations, mapping and analysing the geological characteristics and mineral potential of the selected zones. The resulting data is expected to provide critical insights into deposit sizes, quality, and extraction feasibility.

Officials from the Ghana Gold Board emphasized that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to promote responsible mining practices, increase national gold production, and ensure greater benefits flow to the country and its citizens.

“Reliable geological data is the foundation for informed policy decisions, attracting responsible investment, and ensuring sustainable development of our mineral resources,” a statement from the Gold Board noted.

The project aligns with the government’s push to formalise and modernise the mining sector, reduce illegal mining activities, and position Ghana as a leader in responsible gold production across Africa.

The collaboration between the Ghana Gold Board and the Geological Survey Authority is seen as a positive move toward evidence-based decision-making in the sector, with expectations that the findings will pave the way for the establishment of well-planned, environmentally conscious model mining operations in the targeted areas.

Further phases of the initiative are expected to expand to additional mineralised zones across the country as the programme progresses.
